With proper care, your natural and organic bedding will provide years of comfort. Below you'll find complete care instructions for all Snug Sleep products.

Certain products require special handling and are not suitable for machine washing. Please read this entire page before cleaning any of your Snug Sleep products.

A note about the scent of wool - Our wool, both natural and organic, is cleaned and processed naturally without the use of harsh chemicals. That's why you may initially notice the mild sweet scent of sunny farm pastures when you receive your new wool product. Our wool retains 1% of the naturally occurring lanolin oil, which helps condition the fibers and keep them fluffy and soft for years to come. Most customers find the scent dissipates within a few days.

General Wool Product Care

Always Protect Your Bedding: Use washable duvet covers for comforters and washable cases for pillows.

Let Wool Breathe: Natural fibers need airflow. Let your wool items lay in the open uncovered to let moisture evaporate, and make sure you are storing bedding in a cool, dry place when not in use.

Sun Your Wool: A few times a year, refresh wool bedding indoors by opening curtains to let the rays in. You can also take your items outside in the summer to soak up the sun in the fresh air. This helps to disinfect and revitalize the wool.

Do Not Dry Clean, even at natural-focused cleaners.

Spot Cleaning

Sometimes accidents happen! When the unforeseen occurs, always spot clean first to extend product life.

Blot spills immediately with a clean, absorbent towel.
Avoid using harsh detergent or stain removers, and instead use a gentle option based on the situation:

- For stains, apply hydrogen peroxide (may lighten fabric) and dab gently with a paper towel.
- For sanitizing spills, saturate the area with rubbing alcohol and let air dry.
- For odors (like urine), use a natural enzyme cleaner as needed.

For larger stains:

Apply a biodegradable detergent in a sink/tub and run water through the soiled area only - do not fully submerge wool items, as it will extend drying time drastically.
Press between towels to remove moisture. Do not rub or agitate the wool.
Do not wring or machine dry. Line dry in the sun or a warm place.

Machine Washing

Although we recommend spot cleaning whenever possible, there may come a time that you need to fully launder your product. Machine washing should only be a last resort for our non-washable duvets. Every wash of wool products risks shrinkage or felting.

Certain products are not suitable for machine washing. Read this entire page for guidance.

For Both Top-Load and Front-Load Washers:

Never use the wash cycle - even "delicate" settings agitate and damage wool.

Steps:

Soak: Fill with cold water and add a small amount of biodegradable detergent or wool wash. Let items soak.
Spin: Skip the wash cycle. Manually run the spin cycle to remove water.
Repeat: Optional additional soak and spin as needed.
Air Dry Only: Drape in the sun or a warm place. Never machine dry.

No Guarantee Once Washed

Because washing machines vary widely, we cannot guarantee bedding integrity once machine washed. We want you to enjoy your natural products for years to come and offer these washing instructions to assist you in giving them the best care possible. We encourage using the soak-and-spin method to extend product life.

Special Care for Specific Products

Wool Knop Pillows

The fill is not washable.
The zipper case can be machine washed, but as they are 100% cotton, please only use cold water and hang dry to prevent shrinkage.

Washable Wool Duvets

About Mold, Mildew, and Dust Mites

Mold and mildew occur as a result of moisture build-up and lack of ventilation. Use slatted bases and mattress protectors to minimize moisture accumulation. Air out and sun your wool products to allow excess moisture to evaporate. Once mold or mildew is established, it is often too late to remedy - catch it early!

Our materials, wool and latex, are naturally dust mite resistant. For extra precautions for sensitive individuals:

Vacuum regularly with a HEPA filter vacuum.
Reduce bedroom humidity.
Remove unnecessary textiles from sleeping areas.
